15-Love

Shirt: Jovovich-Hawk for Target
Skirt: Prince Tennis Skirt, Vintage
Shoes: Salvatore Ferragamo

This vintage tennis skirt from the Attic in Columbus, MS is one of my best finds. The fabric is light and breezy, the pleats are permanent, and there is an adorable row of buttons down the length of the skirt. So what if it was originally intended for playing tennis?

One Dress, Four Ways

These lovely ladies, Caroline, Claire and Allie, came to visit me in Memphis a few weekends ago and when we stopped by the local Forever 21, we all fell in love with this floral, feminine, short sleeve dress. Now we'll show you how you can style one girly dress into four completely unique outfits.

Prim n' Proper

Shirt: Converse One Star, Target
Skirt: Ben Sherman
Shoes: Salvatore Ferragamo

I love this preppy little outfit, but in retrospect I see that it kind of makes me look like a Stepford Wife. Oh well.

Prints Charming

Shirt: Mossimo, Target
Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Clarks

Mixing prints can be quite the challenge. It's a fine line between chic and tacky skate night. But you can make prints work together. It's always best to let one print take precedence over the other. Never wear two insanely busy prints. One should be simple and the other more complicated. The key to making this look work is coordinating the colors in the patterns.

The Scary Skirt

Shirt: H&M
Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Dexter, Payless

Here it is, the infamous "scary" skirt in all of its 1950's taffeta glory. Let me just say that I LOVE this skirt. However, it is a statement piece. If you want to wear a skirt such as this you kinda have to pair it with simpler pieces to make sure that you don't come off as costumey. I chose this skirt in a neutral color to make it wearable for everyday and I paired with a simple shirt and some casual cute wedges.

An Education

People often think that I put a TON of time into my appearance, waking up hours before I need to be at class or work to get "dressed up." Well let me tell you here, THAT'S NOT TRUE. I usually spend an hour TOPS getting ready for work or class and that includes breakfast, hygiene, hair, make-up and fashion selection. And I will also tell you this, you can do this too! All it takes are a few go to basics to cut your morning routine in half.

1. Cardigans–The perfect top off to any Plain Jane outfit. These cute, simple cardigans from Old Navy can take you from zero to chic in 60 seconds.
2. Full Skirts–Always cute and always comfortable, these 50's inspired skirts from Forever 21 are all excellent go to pieces.
3. Sundresses–These feminine frocks, from Urban Outfitters and Forever 21, can create an entire outfit in just one piece. Surprisingly, they are also insanely comfortable!
4. Cute, Comfy Shoes–A pair of playful wedges, like these Dexter ones from Payless, some ladylike flats, like these from Salvatore Ferragamo, and a pair of easy, strapy sandals are essential to creating an easy-chic wardrobe.
5. Slacks–These professional, polished pants from Charlotte Russe also play well as a casual staple.

Total Eclipse

Dress: Thrifted, Salvation Army Columbus
Leggings: Faded Glory, Wal Mart
Shoes: Salvatore Ferragamo

Looking at this picture, I'm not quite sure if I like this outfit on, but I do like the idea of it. The sheer chiffon and lace overlay on the shoulders and hem is wonderful. It makes me feel like I'm wearing a dress from the Titanic-era. I saw Eclipse tonight, and I'm not gonna lie, I really enjoyed it. This movie is by far the best in the series and Bella is actually likable in some parts. (I know, it's weird right?) Plus, I've now decided that I'm officially Team Jasper.

Sunshine In My Soul

Cardigan: Old Navy
Tank: Old Navy
Skirt: Wet Seal
Shoes: Salvatore Ferragamo

Things have been crazy at Justine this week! We are in full layout mode and creating pages like crazy. I'm proud to say that two pages I laid out are actually going in the magazine. I can't believe it! My main career goal is to be the Creative Director of a fashion magazine, so actually getting a taste of creating pages for Justine was amazing. So needless to say, my happy, sunny outfit reflects my happy, sunny mood.

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Platforms

Sweater: Old Navy
Dress: Liberty of London for Target
Belt: Forever 21
Shoes: Charlotte Russe

Things at Justine were pretty intense today. The issue wraps soon so we are all trying our best to get every story laid out perfectly. Today, I perfected my Boot Story and the opening page for our Runway fashion story! It was tons of fun. I really hope I end up doing this for a living. Today I wore my most comfortable dress and sweater, but for some weird, unknown reason, I wore these 2 foot tall platforms from Hades. I was teeter tottering everywhere. I really need to learn how to wear functional shoes...

Halftone

Shirt: H&M
Skirt: Forever 21 Twist
Shoes: Vintage Salvatore Ferragamo
Necklace: Charlotte Russe

To me, this outfit is in some ways girly, vintage, 50's punk, if that is even a valid description. I love how the only thing that really ties these pieces together is the black and white screen prints on the skirt and shirt. Today, I started my first fashion layout for the August/September issue of Justine. It is for a lovely little story on back to school boots. The concept is a girl doodling in her notebook all of the cutest boot styles for fall. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

Little Bow on the Prairie

Shirt: Twelve by Twelve, Forever 21
Skirt: Monteau, Forever 21
Shoes: Dexter, Payless

No, no, this isn't the scary skirt. It is just another of my wonderful purchases from Forever 21 yesterday. This skirt is so wonderfully high waisted, it makes me feel super vintage. Today at Justine, we laid out a few of the fashion stories, and let me say that my outfit must have made me feel especially girly today, because they layouts are vintage-chic and super feminine. I can't wait for you all to see them!

Casual Corner

Dress: American Eagle
Shirt: Converse One Star, Target
Shoes: Deena & Ozzy, Urban Outfitters

Today, things at the office were pretty slow. After a week of shoots and interviews, things are starting to wind down, so I spent the majority of the day shipping clothes back to vendors. Lucky for me, I got off of work early today and decided to go hit up the mall. At Forever 21 I found this gorgeous, 50's style, full skirt. Of course, I was immediately in love. However the girl who picked it up after me found the skirt "scary". This skirt is the perfect piece for the new fashionable lady-like look. It is very Louis Vuitton Fall 2010. Don't worry, you will all definitely be seeing it soon. I do admit, the skirt is a statement piece, but it certainly isn't scary.

Polka Dot Specialist

Dress: Forever 21 Boutique
Shoes: Clarks Artisans

This is what I wore to the office last Friday. It's an adorable, easy to wear little frock from Forever 21. On Friday, I had the great fortune of interviewing 3 great Disney Hyperion authors for justinespark.com. Therefore, when choosing my ensemble, I had to make sure that the upper half was interesting so as to look chic on camera. This dress has an adorable ruffled collar, so I hope it did the trick. I'll definitely let you all know when the interviews are posted, as long as you promise to cut me a break, I'm an art major, not Katie Couric. :)

Paper Bag

Top: H&M
Skirt: Tulle
Belt: Charlotte Russe
Bag: Old Navy
Hand Painted Scarf
Shoes: Payless

Today was a rejuvenation day at the office. After two hectic, yet super fun, photo shoots, it was awesome to get to just BE at the office. We're getting everything back in order for the fashion credits and to send the samples back. Today, I just wanted to be laid back. I wore a simple, cute tee, my no fail Tulle skirt, and I topped it all off with some cute floral wedges.

Take Two

Shirt: Walmart, Faded Glory
Skirt: Delia's
Shoes: Toms, Libby Story

Today at Justine we had our second photo shoot of the issue at The Paul Mitchell School in Memphis. Given the catastrophe involving the height of my shoes and the stress of a photo shoot yesterday, I was determined to come up with a look today in which I could wear the most comfortable shoes I own, my Toms, and still look teen fashion magazine appropriate. So I came up with this casual, all-american look, and I'm proud to say that my feet feel great at the end of the day!

Blue Period

Dress: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Payless

I noticed today that both of the outfits I've posted so far have been of the cool color palette. I promise to branch out tomorrow! Today at Justine we had a wonderful back to school photo shoot. I didn't think that I would be attending, so I wore heels. BIG MISTAKE! Though they are my comfy wedges, they aren't comfy enough to be on your feet ALL DAY! So, lesson learned: always be prepared with a pair of adorable flats.

I'm BACK.

After a very busy Freshman year at Mississippi State, I'm finally back and ready to blog. This Summer I'm interning at Justine Magazine in Memphis, TN. Since I won't be in Starkville photographing the fashionistas of State, I've decided to share with you what I wear to my internship everyday.

Sweater: Target
Tank: Urban Outfitters
Skirt: Charlotte Russe
Pumps: Jessica Simpson

All in all, this look, minus hair and make-up, took about 10 minutes to put together. Plus, it was fairly inexpensive! As always, I'm here to reassure you that you can look fabulous and not spend hours getting ready. I'll be posting my outfits Monday through Thursday to show my summer fashion STATEments! I hope you enjoy!

And remember, a chic outfit a day keeps the fashion police away.
